The tram ride along the front. The first glimpse of the Tower. A pocketful of coins for the arcades and chips on the way home. Some holidays stay with you long after the sand has gone from your shoes.

There is more to a holiday photograph than the view. Look beyond the Tower in this 1971 picture and notice the open space of the promenade, the overhead tram wires and the people going about their day. It is an invitation to remember your own journey there: who came with you, where you stayed and what you did first. A boarding house, a caravan or a day trip could each produce a completely different Blackpool story.
The little details make the memory
Perhaps it was the sound of an arcade, the smell of hot chips or the moment the sea appeared through the car window. Family photographs often miss those details, but a few words can bring them back. If you recognise a feature in this photograph, share what you know and tell us whether it looked the same when you visited.
